No. Just a celebration.
Why?
Because today is the very last day of this year. It is the end of a whole year and we are starting a brand new one tomorrow.
Blank stare. Oh. And she is off to play.
She doesn't understand yet what a year means but looking back at this one, a year means A LOT of changes for this little family. A year means her Daddy is no longer a guy working in an architecture firm. It means he said goodbye to the only place he has worked since moving to CO and to people who were like to family to him to go after his dream job. It means he is a firefighter who tells me on a regular basis how much he loves his job and how thankful he is that he is doing his dream job. A year means that Troy is no longer a baby but technically a toddler, even if his Mommy isn't quite ready to admit that yet. A year means that he has learned to sit-up, crawl, eat on his own, sleep through the night, walk, laugh, play, and even talk a little. A year means he has transformed from a tiny baby into a little person who completes our family in every way. A year means Emily is her own person. She now picks out her own clothes, decides what shoes to wear, what to play, how to act, and is very good at telling the rest of us how we need to do all of the above too. A year means she went to bible camp for a week this last summer and is still talking about it. A year means she can make french toast pretty much by herself, she is learning to ride a "big girl" bike, and is becoming quite independent just the way she is supposed to. A year means she has started writing her name, knows most of her sounds and counts to 20 with a few of her own variations in there. A year means Mommy has learned how to be a single parent two days a week, and how to deal with having Daddy around for four at a time. A year means that her business has survived and thrived and she is looking at the possibility of another one. A year means a lot of growing for this Mommy and a lot of learning too. A year means a new set of days to fill, to savor, to look forward to. Here's to a happy new one.
I put together some of my favorite pictures from 2010. Enjoy!
