The Saturday after Emily's actual birthday we threw her a little party so that all of her friends and family could help us celebrate. The theme was bugs and we had a great time making spiders out of watermelon, and butterfly cupcakes. I am not sure if Emily understood that everyone was there for her, but she loved that she had such a big audience. The kids played hard running from the front yard to the back. Emily started out in a pretty little dress that once belonged to me but I decided she would be much better off playing in the dirt in play clothes. Emily did a great job with the first few presents, she liked the toys better than the clothes, but Mom and Dad appreciated the clothes! After a few presents she was quickly distracted and left Mom to open the rest. We decided to forgo a big cake and just did cupcakes. Emily wasn't too sure about the singing part, she didn't know why everyone was looking at her and singing, but the eating part she got. By the end she had cupcake everywhere! It was a wonderful day and we were so blessed to have so many people share the day with us, and of course we missed those that weren't able to make it. She definitely turned one with a bang....now onto two!
